🎉 Prefer to just build the piñata without the full scavenger hunt?
You can grab the Enderdragon Piñata Template Kit separately too—it includes the decorative templates and build instructions so you can craft this dragon as a standalone party project.

What You’ll Need

To start, gather these materials:

  • Black tissue box (for the head)
  • Toilet paper or paper towel roll (for the neck)
  • Large box (about Pampers size) for the body
  • Cardboard or poster board (for the wings and tail)
  • Black, silver, and purple streamers
  • Black tissue paper
  • Wood dowels (for wing supports)
  • Hot glue or strong craft glue
  • Black duct tape
  • Scissors or box cutter
  • Printed cardstock templates for scales, eyes, legs, and other decorations (available in The Great Realm Quest kit)

Building Your Enderdragon Piñata: Step by Step

1. The Head

Start with a tissue box for the head. Wrap it with black streamers for texture. Using the cardstock templates from The Great Realm Quest kit, glue on purple square eyes and silver scales. For the beak, attach the black cardstock pieces diagonally—inside, add a strip of purple streamer for the tongue and crumpled purple and black streamers for depth.

2. The Neck

Use a toilet paper roll wrapped in black streamers to connect the head to the body. Add silver cardstock scales from the kit along the neck for extra detail.

3. The Body

Grab a large box (Pampers size is perfect), and cover it with black streamers. Using the scale templates from the kit, glue silver cardstock scales onto the back. Then attach the cardstock hips, legs, and feet templates, reinforcing with duct tape inside for strength.

4. The Tail

Trace the tail shape onto cardboard or poster board using the included template from the kit (about 2”W x 1.5”H x 18.2”L). Wrap it in black streamers and decorate with silver scale cutouts. Secure the tail to the back of the body with duct tape and glue.

5. The Wings

Trace the wing shapes from the kit’s templates onto cardboard and cut out two wings (16.8”L x 7”H each). Cover the wings with black tissue paper, then layer fringed black streamers to mimic feathers. Tape two wood dowels together for support, insert through the body to hold wings in place, and reinforce with duct tape inside.

Final Touches & Assembly

Once all parts are decorated and assembled, punch a hole on top of the Enderdragon Pinata’s body box and thread strong string or ribbon for hanging. Make sure the wings are balanced and that the dowel supports the structure securely. Fill the body with candy or small treasures through a hidden flap or removable panel.
